I recently purchased a vehicle with a Maryland Salvage championship with the intent of rebuilding it. I was told by the DMV to get a SC Salvage title first. I received this championship and it says "Salve - Non Rem.". After I finish rebuilding the vehicle, what practice I need to practise to register it? Is it even possible to register it now?

I've read some conflicting info online and the DMV website is disruptive. Do I need to get it inspected and certified rebuilt and so they will requite me a new title that states "Rebuilt"?

Cheers in advance!

Information technology'south a title stating that the vehicle has been 'totaled' - to protect futurity buyers. I bought my 'totaled' vehicle dorsum from insurance co., fixed it, and information technology's good every bit new. My case was a auto that had minor cosmetic damage and information technology was easier (to me) to gear up a vehicle I knew the history of than to invest far more than on another. Insurance settlement made it feasible. fwiw, I have a folder with photos of damage and ownership maintenance etc for selling.

register similar any other vehicle at DMV.

Correct, I understand information technology means that the car was totaled... But in terms of registering it - I don't accept to do annihilation special? I just fix it and and then go to the DMV and tell them I desire to register it, merely as if the vehicle had a clean title? Thank you

But if you want a make clean championship, non salvage, then rebuild it and take it to DMV to exist inspected. If yous never plan to sell the vehicle then the save title is no trouble but leave it similar it is.

Have this with a grain of salt. As far equally I know, if you rebuild the vehicle, y'all get a REBUILT title, not clean. Rebuilt is treated the aforementioned way every bit salvage, only a dissimilar discussion on the title. Some states may be dissimilar, simply in SC I am 99.9% certain that it does not magically become clean - that is what is referred to as "Title-washing" and I call up it'due south illegal. Some shady dealers take means of washing titles...

Once the car is branded a full loss, it is a total loss. Some exceptions may be states like NY, where if you lot buy a motorcar that's something like >8 years old and was totaled, it retains its original championship and you tin can get a clean title for it here.
